| The Zhangjiagang Bonded Port Area (free port), at present the only bonded port area located in a county-level port, was officially approved by the State Council in Dec, 2008. This is the nation's 12th bonded port area. | |

Bonded area in China is a type of free port in the legal framework of
China. The formation of bonded port area will expedite the development
of export oriented economy inside the zone and also facilitate the
building of strong relations between the zone and outside and overseas
economy. The Zhangjiagang Bonded Port Area will be constructed and developed as the international cargo hub, Yangtze River Basin water transport centre and commodity exhibition centre.
